Based in Asheville for the last ten years, Margo Schultz is a self-taught artist with a passion for portraiture. Working primarily in oil and charcoal, she skillfully blends classical techniques with an expressive, alla prima approach, creating portraits that feel both contemporary and traditional.

A member of the Portrait Society of America, Margo works from a combination of life and photo references, allowing her flexibility and a wide range in her creative process.

Raised in Annapolis, Maryland, she was introduced to the fundamentals of fine art by influential local artists such as John Ebersberger, Rick Casali, and Andree Tullier. These early experiences helped shape her foundation in portraiture and instilled in her a deep respect for traditional methods.

Now living in North Carolina, she is an active participant in the vibrant WNC arts community. She regularly paints and draws alongside fellow artists Rich Nelson and Caleb Clark, continuing to grow and refine her craft. Her work has been exhibited locally, including at Asheville’s 362 Depot gallery.

Margo’s portraits reflect her belief in the beauty of individual stories, told through expressive brushwork and an intimate connection with her subjects.
